With each passing day, there seems to be one article after another indicating that the pieces for Bible prophecy could be rapidly moving into place. A couple of recent articles stirred my interest on the current Iranian nuclear situation. In this Israel National News article former US Ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, made the claim that if Barack Obama wins the US presidency that Israel would strike Iran before he is sworn into the White House. John Bolton is seen by many as a “hawk” in the political establishment and he is a strong supporter of striking the Iranian nuclear program. John Bolton is the kind of guy that tells things like they are and doesn’t hesitate to say what he thinks. In the article, Bolton goes on to say:

“The argument for military action is sooner rather than later,” he told the Telegraph. Bolton asserted that the Arab world would be “pleased” if Israel attacks Iran’s nuclear site although he added there would be “public denunciations.” The Arab world would be ‘pleased’ if Israel attacks Iran’s nuclear site.

John Bolton goes on to explain that over the past year:

He said he has given up on the Bush administration’s efforts to stop Iran from developing an atomic bomb. “I don’t think it’s serious any more,” he said. “If you had asked me a year ago I would have said I thought it was a real possibility. I just don’t think it’s in the cards.”

In light of these remarks I believe that many folks have been making the same observations that Bolton is currently making in that the window of opportunity for the US to strike the Iranian nuclear facilities has now come to a close. Internal differences of opinion on the Iranian nuclear program coupled with the recent NIE report have helped to derail any serious military efforts to stop the Iranians. With no progress and results being produced on the diplomatic front, the military option seems to be the only serious option left to prevent the Iranians from acquiring a nuclear bomb. But according to John Bolton, the military option just doesn’t look good right now in the last months of the GWB administration.

Last year the US Navy sent a good deal of military hardware in the Persian Gulf in order to send a message to the mullahs in Tehran. However, with nothing happening and the military assets leaving the Persian Gulf area I am afraid the Iranians have concluded that the US is not serious about doing anything militarily against them. The Iranians have a feeling that the US is too tied down in Afghanistan and Iraq to deal with their nuclear situation, so they have continued their nuclear program without fear of retaliation. I do think the Iranians have been emboldened and encouraged that nothing happened last year. As a result, they have continued their nuclear program at full speed and that is definitely not good for the international community.

Another article catching my interest is this one by the Jerusalem Post that indicates that there were apparently false reports circulating Tuesday that the Iranian nuclear facilities had indeed been bombed. It turns out these rumors were false and were denied by Israel, the US, and Iran. The article reported:

Oil rose for a third straight session on Tuesday to more than $138 a barrel, following rumors of an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which was later denied, Reuters reported. “This is just a rumor. No attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities has taken place,” a senior Iranian nuclear official said. Israeli and American military spokesmen also denied the rumors, according to Bloomberg.

On the surface, the article appears to be a innocent false report, but I would suspect that the “psychological warfare” being played out right now is very intense. A report coming out of this nature could be used to help make the Iranians nervous and help to increase pressure on them concerning a future military strike. My gut instinct is that there is more here than meets the eye, but then again I could be wrong. But given the recent reports of the large IDF exercise earlier this month, I just find the timing of the report very interesting and something we need to watch.

In addition, it was reported by the Jerusalem Post that the US Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staffs is making a surprise visit to Israel at the end of this week. Admiral Michael Mullen will be meeting with IDF head Gabi Ashkenazi and this has fueled speculations that they will be discussing possible military action against Iran. This is the second recent visit to Israel for Mullen so this has been raising eyebrows. The article reports:

The visit comes just weeks after the Israel Air Force reportedly flew 100 fighter jets 1,500 kilometers across the Mediterranean in an unprecedented exercise widely reported as a “dress rehearsal” for an attack against Iran.

What happens in the near future remains to be seen, but as these articles demonstrate time could be short for the Iranian nuclear program and that in turn could help provide a domino effect for Bible prophecy. We definitely need to keep our eyes and ears glued to the TVs and newspapers to keep alert on the situation in the ME. History has shown that conflict can erupt at any moment and when we least expect it.

In these last days, one of the most encouraging things about reading the news headlines is that they point to the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ for his church in the event known as the Rapture. We need to heed the call to “look up” as our redemption is drawing nigh. Jesus is coming soon!!!

God bless.
